Would You Be My Hero?
By Bluediamondwolf
The song is from Locke’s POV
Locke sat in the shadows of the ball room, gazing on at everyone having fun, dancing, drinking. But he was the only one who was sober. But his thoughts were drunken by the memories of Rachael. Celes had told him about her ‘crush’ on Edgar. He chuckled at the thought of them being a couple. ‘Why did she have to hurt me so much?’ he thought softly.
"Excuse me, sir," a voice called to him. He looked up at the person who had called out to him. A soft smile crossed his face. Her green hair was thrown over one shoulder, long and down. "Is this seat taken?"
"Course not, Terra." He scooted over some, allowing her to sit down. "Why aren’t you out there dancing?"
Terra sighed softly and looked over at him. Her emerald eyes gently glistened with a sense of some emotion. "I can’t let my best friend sit in the corner the whole night just sighing away, can I?"
[Would you dance
if I asked you to dance?
Would you run
and never look back?
Would you cry
if you saw me cry?
And would you save my soul, tonight?]
"I guess not," Locke muttered softly. He stared out into the crowd, looking at his lost ‘love’ dance away with all joy. "Terra?"
"Hmm?"
Locke stood up, grabbing her hand softly. "Dance with me?"
She looked up at him, smiling softly. "Sure," she whispered. She laid her hand in his, allowing herself to be pulled up and taken to the balcony. "Why out here?"
"I dunno..."
And they danced slowly, with no one watching them. The stars twinkled in melody with the song that echoed outside from the ballroom. Terra wrapped her arms around the man, holding him softly. A soft dampness emptied onto her shoulder. "Locke? Are you ok?" she asked solemnly.
"No..." was his only response.
"What’s wrong?" She placed a hand on his shoulder, as he pulled away, crying over the balcony. "Come on and tell me."
"...it’s Celes..."
[Would you tremble
if I touched you lips?
Would you laugh?
Now please tell me this
Would you die
for the one you loved?
Hold me in your arms, tonight.]
"And Edgar going out," she said, finishing his sentence. She walked away, leaning against the railing, her arms crossed. "I don’t see why you're moping over this."
"Excuse me? Terra...I loved her and she went and broke my heart! Of course I’m gonna mope over this." He walked over to her, placing a hand under her chin. "Why wouldn’t I mope over this?"
"Because there are other people in this world that love you!" she sniffled out.
Locke pulled his hand up to her cheek, rubbing it gently. "Where’d you learn to be so blunt?"
She chuckled softly, pushing her hair away. "I talked to Celes about my problem. She told me to flat out tell you."
"Tell me what?" Locke stared deep into her eyes. ‘She can never keep a secret,’ he thought gently.
"That I love you..."
Locke stood there, smiling softly, placing the pieces all together. Edgar and Celes going out, Terra not even caring about it, and how his heart had began to heal again. He lifted her chin up to face his lips, and gently, like and angel’s sigh, he kissed her lips, hearing her gasp softly.
[I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.]
"So, it was all a trick to get me together with you?" The master treasure hunter was tricked, by his own friends, and didn’t even realize it.
Terra hung her head, smiling softly. "Oh no, they really do like each other. Celes just didn’t want to hurt you. And when I told her, she put the pieces together."
"What pieces?" Locke whispered into her ear, causing a chill to run up and down Terra’s back.
"The way I looked and acted around you, and how you would look back. She knew that you never really loved her."
Locke walked towards the doorway, staring at Celes. She looked back, and nodded her head, as if she was listening to the whole conversation. He turned back, looking at Terra hanging her head. ‘They are right...’ he had began to think. ‘I...don’t love Celes.’
He heard a soft sob and walked over to her, hugging her gently. "What’s wrong?"
"You love her..."
Locke smiled and kissed her cheek gently. "No, I thought I did. But you guys are all right. I...love you, Terra."
[Would you swear,
that you’d always be mine?
Or would you lie?
Would you run and hide?
Am I in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
I don’t care...
You’re here tonight.]
She lifted her head up, and spun around to face him, only to crash into his lips. Another gasp escaped her lips and pulled away, surprised. She smiled softly. "It’s all very confusing, huh?"
"Emotion is very confusing..." Locke grasped her hand and kissed her softly again and again.
[I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.]
He held her tightly, allowing a soft tear to drop onto her hair. It glistened in the starlight. Locke soon felt a warm wetness on his hand. "Are you crying?" She only nodded in response. "Why?"
"I’m...so happy..."
He lifted Terra up, hugging her tightly, and kissing her neck. "Would it make you happier if I promised never to let go?"
[Oh, I just want to hold you.
I just want to hold you
Am I in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
I don’t care...
You’re here tonight.]
Soon, all the Returners began to look on at the couple. "It’ll only make me cry more..."
"Then I’ll just have to make you laugh, huh?" Locke grinned, placing her down. She stared up at him, confused. "Are you ticklish by any chance?"
Soon, laughter broke out from her lips.
[I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.]
Celes looked over at Edgar, who had a soft smile across his lips. "It worked..."
"You didn’t tell her OUR part of the plan, did you?"
Edgar stared down at her, grinning softly. "You think I’m crazy or something?"
Edgar chuckled softly as Terra began pushing Locke away, who kept tickling her. "You ready?"
Celes cleared her throat, and Edgar walked over to a maid, kissing her madly. "YOU ASSHOLE!"
Locke soon turned to see Celes smacking Edgar, who was grinning. ‘...it was a setup to get us together...’
Terra gawked at the two fighting, not realizing that it was a setup. Soon, Locke bent down, and kissed her with such passion, that the whole world had stopped.
[I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.
